Our flagship orchestra, the British Sinfonietta, has a busy patch around Easter, collaborating with choirs around the UK.
2025 kicked off with a performance of Elgar’s epic The Dream of Gerontius at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 22 March, with an orchestra of 60 performing alongside the combined forces of Bracknell Choral Society and Wokingham Choral Society, conducted by George de Voil.
The following weekend the orchestra performed Haydn’s The Creation with Brockham Choral in Surrey (conducted by Cole Bendall), and music by Britten and Rutter with King’s Lynn Festival Chorus, conducted by Ben Horden.
Another double weekend followed this, with music by Lauridsen and Puccini in Stafford (with Stafford Choral Society, conducted by Sam Yates), and music by Gjeilo and Mozart in Swansea (with Swansea Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Jonathan Rogers).
Following a break for Easter weekend, the orchestra will be performing music by Chilcott and Rutter at Carlisle Cathedral on Saturday 26 April (with Cumbria Singers conducted by Matthew Owens), and Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus in Epping (with Harlow Chorus conducted by Sarah Tenant-Flowers).
